We are very pleased to have completed the certification acording to the MEG4 requirements! MEG 4 (Mooring Equipment Guidelines, fourth edition) is designed to improve safety at work on ships and in harbours/terminals.
MEG 4 defines the requirements (tests, guidelines, instructions, etc.) for equipment used on large ships, i.e. winding gear, fabric and steel mooring lines and tails.
At Lanex we currently have two certificates MEG 4, namely:
- tail for Cruiser Plus ropes
- line for #HMPE ropes
Each of these certificates required a number of different tests to be carried out to simulate the behaviour of the ropes/tails in actual use on a boat. Testing was mainly carried out by cyclically loading the ropes/tails to prescribed values (e.g. for HMPE Angled Endurance testing the rope was cyclically loaded 17,000 times).
The whole process of testing and related tasks was carried out under the supervision and control of the DNV (Den Norski Veritas) certification organisation and took approximately 1 year.
